Chris Peterson was featured at www.spaceweather.com but his video doesn't
play out. It just tries to load but doesn't.

Excellent capture Chris. Thanks for the effort and the post.

Did you click on the video links on the page Spaceweather redirects you
to? In order to see the videos you need basic Javascript enabled, as
well as Flash. However, two of the videos are also available in GIF
format, which should play in any browser:

http://www.cloudbait.com/science/20070420_230031_001_anim.gif
http://www.cloudbait.com/science/20070420_230034_002_anim.gif

Try those.

No, that's not something I'm working with. Check Ed Majden's work if
you're interested in meteor spectra: http://members.shaw.ca/epmajden/

Interesting. How much is is slowed down. It enters the field then steadily
brightens.

At the point where it flares up in brightness, the velocity has dropped
to about 18 km/s, it is decelerating at 120 G, and is at a height of 63
km. By now the air is thick enough to get some serious ablation going.
In addition, the deceleration rate exceeds the material strength of the
body, so it is breaking up, exposing more surface area, and producing
fragmentation flares. All of this is consistent with a rock about 60 cm
in diameter. During the last half of the flight it is losing material
very fast, which you see in all the light production. Given an initial
mass around 500 kg, it is reasonable to expect perhaps 10 kg of
meteorites on the ground.
