Can a telrad be used on a 4.5 Dobsonian reflector or should I use an
Orion EZ finder?
Thanks.

You should see the two telerads on the 100 inch Hooker telescope at Mt.
Wilson, they are lost in the machinery, but are invaluable in pointing
the bign scope....

Thanks for input. I have read that Telrad viewing is a bit
uncomfortable for the neck.
Comments on this?
Thanks.

I haven't found it so. If anything, what makes me go into contortions is
using an equtorial mount. That's alleviated by using a good observing
chair, especially for those near zenith objects.

Depends on the position of your scope, and on your neck. Suffice to say
that any unit-power finder will require you to get into about the same
position, so this isn't a good reason to choose one over another.

Another option is a green laser pointer. I have one on my Tele Vue 76 =
now and really like using it.

I'll second the green laser pointer.
Orion has one for under 100 dollars (telescope.com) and
http://lumicon.com/hot_products.php has a great quality mount to hold the
laser. I use, of all the things I tried, a small chip clip (like you use to
hold the potato chip closed).. Works great!
Also from Orion I got a 9x50 right angle correct image finder. with those
two, and a coupla different star atlas I get around the sky pretty well not
having computer control or goto..
More of the old school method..

Use any finder that you want, as long as it suits you. I use a Telrad on my
3.4 refractor, and some aesthetes have commented that it looks too big.
Hey, it lets me find things and look at them, which is the point, not how
pretty it is. Besides, you might move up to something bigger (I intend to)
and you'll have the finder that you're happy with.

I've got one on my Stargazer Steve 4.25inch f9 Dob and it works fine.

Optically, it doesn't matter which finder you use. Physically, the Telerad,
being the biggest of the various finders, would estecitally look kind of
large on the small scope.

Neither - use a Rigel Quickfinder.

I would go with a Rigel Quikfinder or a Telrad. I prefer the
Quikfinder on my 6" Stargazer Steve Dob since it's lighter and sits
higher off the tube than a Telrad. I have an Orion EZ finder on my
Orion Starblast, it's ok but the window is tinted enough to block out
faint stars and it only projects a dot instead of rings like the
Quikfinder and Telrad.

I'll second the Rigel. A Telrad will practically require you to lie on
the ground to sight objects near the zenith with a small dob. It's a
great device, just too big and heavy for a small dob.

The Orion just projects a dot; no circles like a Telrad or Rigel.

The Rigel rules. I have one on my 10 inch Teleport and it works very well.

I've seen an ad (in the Telrad box) for a right-angle attachment for
the Telrad. I've never seen one in the flesh, or heard anybody
report on using one. Opinions on the right-angle Telrad?

Seems like that would defeat much of the purpose of a Telrad-type =
finder... Looking at the sky with both eyes open while aiming.
