Subject: cooling an observatory in summer heat

Hi everyone, After many years of planning and hoping, my roll-off roof observatory is nearly finished. I've heard that it's a good idea to mount a small, solar powered fan in the eave vents to help regulate the interior temperature during the summer. Does anyone have a link or a reference for a source of suitable fans? Ray, How about using a solar chimney? A long piece of stovepipe painted black, mounted vertically and ducted to the observatory? The pipe must be vertical and exposed to the sun. Heated air will rise and draw cooled air into the bottom. No moving parts! Possibly mounted on a pivot so it can be lowered out of the way of the telescope? My Dome was "dropped" on top of my Observatory In Mid September and I know I will need to cool down the inside next summer... Your Roll off should however cool down pretty fast if you pop the top a few hours before you want to use it...how long does it take your scope to cool down.. ? Clear Sky's ... BTW... My observing time has at least trippled since my Dome went up almost 2 months ago.. it is NOT hard to get used to 10 second set ups.. and .5 second shut downs, no more lugging out the gear... !
