(Universe Today) I try not to get involved in political matters, but
sometimes I've just got to take a stand. You might have heard that my
good friend Phil Plait from Bad Astronomy (and co-forum administrator )
is up for a Weblog 2006 award for the best science blog. Unfortunately,
he's up against some ferocious competition, including Pharyngula

Sorry, I don't read Phil Plait anymore because of his Anti-Christian
viewpoint.

Is that 'Anti-Christian' as in anti the religion, or Anti-'Christian' as in
anti some of the intolerant bigoted anti-knowledge,anti-humanity
fundamentalists who give my religion a bad name.

My opinion of course, others can have their own.
Of course I tend to not listen to folks who are blatantly anti
Christian too.

He didn't mention the recent Comet that was naked eye or the
brightening of chi cygni for example and that's only what I remember.

Just another "bogus" professional I'm afraid....not my cup of tea.

And I really have to question just how much of a "Real" Astronomer he
is since I've found him lacking on talking about real time events going
on in the sky like Nova for instance.

You know something the rest of us don't? Is there
currently a naked eye nova in the sky? Or are you
saying that he doesn't present information the way
they do on Nova on PBS?

Maybe, I've very little knowledge to base any view on this particular topic.

But, to be honest; as a Christian I find far more offence in some of the
things said by people claiming to be Christian than by anything said by
atheists or believers in other religions. I'm sure it's the same for you.

I also agree 100%

The real thing that bothers me, is all the people
who show no tolerance for others here.

The Bad Astronomy site isn't intended to be an "observing" type site.
There is no point in him pointing out present events in the sky, etc,
since this isn't his focus. The purpose of the site is to point out
examples of bad astronomy in the popular press, movies, etc. Since much
of the public gets astronomical information through these types of
sources, this can be very useful information.
No one has to read the site if they feel their religious beliefs
are being threatened.

The problem is not the creationists or the empiricists, the problem is
mediocre Christians who support the basis for these artificial
creation/evolution ,science/religion scenarios.

Any person silly enough to believe that Darwin overturned the idea of
the Earth being created using the Genesis chronology dating the Earth
to 6000 years must live in a cave, the catholic bishop Nicolas
Steno, along with active clergymen in the field of geolgy, created the
geological discipline on the stratification or superposition of
sedimentary layers making the Earth very old -

http://www.ucmp.berkeley.edu/history/steno.html

As for Copernican heliocentricity, the man could present the arguments
to the Pope who probably had a working knowledge of what was
involved.Copernicus only fear was that less than careful people would
get hold of his arguments -

http://webexhibits.org/calendars/year-text-Copernicus.html

So,those stupid enough to support the fables which go into showing
Christianity in the worst possible light in the fields of geological
and biological evolution or in the field of astronomy will be
confronted with the spectacle of seeing that the original founders were
Christians writing to other Christians involved in the disciplines.

The anti-intuitive empiricist is as narrow as the creationist in coming
to believe what they do but both are probably not as destructive as
those who call themselves Christians while adhering to pure
nonsense.Christianity is where the Infinite and the definite meet in
man and developing intuitive intelligence to recognise Christ and
Christianity can light up natural phenomena in a new way.

Newton was an Arian heretic and it shows in his work,he tried to cast
Jesus in the role of God's moral spokesman and himself as the
'scientific spokesman' hence 'universal laws'.Lurking at the core of
those 'universal laws' is a geometry which would embarrass even the
creationist.
