Subject: Update on The Astro Poll

The poll is up and running again. I had to dump the server I was using for
the original since its results retention was only 24 hours and they also
set a limit on the number of people who could respond (100).
Unfortunately, in making a change to another poll server, I lost all
submitted responses on the old poll.

Anyway, you may wish to register your choices again so everyone can see
what is being indicated by the weight of all the answers.

These three questions will stay up until the end of August.

Perhaps some more controversial ones will be posed for September.

Hi:

In the parlance, "push-to" has come to indicate a telescope equipped
with a digital setting circle computer.

I'm confused about the question "Do you ever use GoTo or PushTo."
Aren't /all/ astronomical telescopes one or the other, i.e., wouldn't
the "Yes" votes have to equal 100%? Or do you count a 'scope with
manual setting circles as a separate category?

I have no digital setting circles, no GoTo, no computer on my
fork-mounted telescope. So no, I never use GoTo or PushTo.

The scope has etched plates that indicate RA and dec (setting
circles). I do use the dec circle to approximately align the tube with
the fork's axis of rotation when polar aligning. But that doesn't
count for looking for a celestial object in GoTo or PushTo fashion.

And I'm sure the vast majority of dob and refractor don't use that
thar newfangled technotoy. Luddites, unite!

He probably means digital setting circles? Or what about a telescope
that doesn't have any setting circles? Mine has manual setting circles
but as a newbie I'm still just learning my way around star hopping.
