The gray area is the smoke cover from all those crazy fires in Idaho, WA and
CA.

which is shows more detailed views of the hotpsots and multiple smoke
sources.
You should have been up here in Alberta Canada over the past 3 weeks,
especially with the massive fires in Washington State (which is now
moving up into BC across the border). The Jet Stream was sucking the
smoke directly over us in Calgary. It dropped my normal down town Mag
3/4 skies to Mag 1 and it was difficult to even make out Arcturus or
Altair visually.
Last night it reeked of forest fire smoke here and we've had sporadic
warnings for people with respitory problems to stay indoors and keep
the windows closed for the past 2 weeks.

Just a quick OT remark: Your Mars sequence, in the page above,

can actually be viewed as cross-eyed stereo (for every given pair), since the
rotational frames you provide simulate different shooting angles.
I don't know if you were aware of this. Very good work.
