Subject: Swan spits out a piece?
|
As posted slightly earlier, Bill (nuckdaily@gmail.com) and I both report seeing some "pieces" breaking off comet Swan. I observed one tiny bright nucleus part still within the coma in (I think, 'cause I'm looking through a newtonian) SW of the main nucleus. For clarity, the "piece" was seen by me to be at a position angle of about 45deg, when the tail is at 180deg. Sorry if this is not clear. It's the best I can do. Time of my observation is 0300-0330UT (earlier, I said 0400UT, but forgot to figure daylight savings time. Observation was made using an 18" newtonian at 63X. I am thinking the break-off of a portion of the nucleus could account for the unexpected brightening. Clear Skies, Uncle Bob 37.987145,-122.591876
