Subject: Small 'Scope, Large Camera

I recently bought a largish CCD camera that I will use -- initially, at
least -- on my Tele Vue 76. Smaller Tele Vue 'scopes are capable of
holding a heavy camera, but those manufactured before a certain date in
2005 have a single locking screw on the draw tube locking collar. This
is inadequate to support a massive camera.

I have modified my Tele Vue locking collar and a 2" spacer, adding two
additional lock screws to each unit.

This modification is not difficult for a person who has a modicum of
skill and experience in the use of hand and power tools. For those who
might be interested in performing this operation themselves, I have
posted illustrated instructions at
<http://www.davidillig.com/ast-tv76drawtube.shtml >. The procedure that
I describe could be used to modify other equipment in a similar manner.

I urge you to read the page in its entirety before undertaking this
task and to pay particular attention to safety warnings.
