The card playing place that's only about 100 yards down the road, who put up those blazing QH lights on the nort facint top of his roof, that have killed viewing the milkyway from my home now, has on the 3 lights facing north put shields on them, or at lest that's what he calls the metal strips that now block maybe 0.5% of the light coming towards the trailer park and he calls those totaly useless things light shields. They where put on yesterday so last night I checked and there is almost no reduction of light at all. The shileds look to be stips of metal that at the most stick out from the top maybe 6 to 10 inch. The Freeway Billbords used to hold 1st place on my list of light sorces, they have been moved down to 3rd place, with Diamond Jims taking 1st and 2nd place. -- The Lone Sidewalk Astronomer of Rosamond Telescope Buyers FAQ http://home.inreach.com/starlord Sidewalk Astronomy www.sidewalkastronomy.info The Church of Eternity http://home.inreach.com/starlord/church/Eternity.html

I took a tip I read in Uncle Rod's Guide to Urban Astronomy. Make a light shield from inexpensive 2X4 boards and plywood. I use a sign easel that I made a few years ago. I place a big corrogated piece of sign plastic on it to block out the streetlight that is right next to my driveway. It works like a charm. However, it "occults" any objects behind it in the sky. The other option is to construct an inexpensive circular wall out of PVC pipe and blue tarp material. But that adds to setup time.. That would be fine for normal street lamps, these 3 lights are like this: * * * spread across the top of the building and I'd need a 10ft tall wall. I can't even see the Milkyway because of them. You don't seem to get it. This place has been out here for close to 15 years and didn't have these lights. And it is the ONLY place in the area. It was sold to a new owner last year and the new owner is the one who put up the lights last month. And the only other places in this area are HOMES and no one likes the lights. -- The Lone Sidewalk Astronomer of Rosamond Telescope Buyers FAQ http://home.inreach.com/starlord Sidewalk Astronomy www.sidewalkastronomy.info The Church of Eternity http://home.inreach.com/starlord/church/Eternity.html "Wally" <woodfield@yahoo.com > wrote in message news:45236A62.E90819E7@yahoo.com... > You dont seem to git it.
