Rosamond Report

Saturday Night was a mostly
Clear Night, but it was a bit
on the Windy and cold side.
I had passed out flyers on
friday afternoon on the streets
around the park area and I
had found out during that
time that some of the kids and
other folks didn't even know
the name of the park, yet
they lived maybe one block
away from it.
Saturday was mostly partly
cloudy, so I was not sure I
would even go, but as it
neared dark, most of the
clouds went away, leaving a
mostly clear sky and by 7pm
it was a full clear sky and
I went and set up in the
park. Took my permit and
printed copies of my
Rosamond Astro News to give
out to anyone.

It is a lot darker at that park,
with just a few lights on
or in houses nearby I could
have done without. But it
was dark and the scope had
a good workout. M31 was awesome
and I think I might have spotted
M32 too, but not 100% sure
about it. I didn't bring my
star map so can't be sure of
some of the things I saw,
but it was a lot more than what
I could see from home since
Diamond Jacks put up those
awefull lights.

I closed up near 10pm without
anyone coming to have a look
see. My next permit is for
Dec.9th, so this time I hope
to get the news about the
Rosamond United Park Star Pary
out to more people.
I will have to get some new
gloves to, moving that
metal oTA with bear hands
in any cold is not nice. Got
to get down to K-mart in
Lancaster around the first.

I had planed on driving around
the outer area of Rosamond to
find places to set up, but gas
for the old cfh is heading to
$2.50 a gal real fast, will most
likly hit that this weekend,
and that is going to slow me down.

That was a nice report - shame I don't live in the area as I would have
joined you but as I'm in the UK it'll be a bit far to travel :-)

I have a transporter, but it's a bit old and creaky for long journeys.

I'll soon be able to borroy my daughters transporter. Even older ( a
'splittie') but now being fully restored and with several upgrades
(including sound system) (and at vast expense!)
So, see you soon!

Sorry Starlord, I haven't been keeping up with the NG, what is this
permit you speak of?
For my part, we've had a couple of clear SEKAS public nights that have
been well attended. Some press coverage of comet Swan helped swell the
ranks a little.

Because these are county parks, they close at 8pm, which means no useage
after that time. So I went infront of the RSCD and got them to install a
free Useage permit, this allows anyone to use the park after hours if they
have the permit. I got the first 2 permits.

Egyptians, or the Toltechs, or the Mayans. Some believe that they may yet be
brothers of man, who even now fight to survive, somewhere beyond the
heavens.
