Subject: Retrofit autostar to Meade ETX 90 Model M?
|
I inherited a Meade ETX 90 Model M. This has a battery powered motor drive but does not have Autostar. I'd like to have Autostar, but have looked and not seen anything aside from the DS-series Autostar retrofit. Am I out of luck? Thanks in advance for any advice, -Roger

Here is what I found. http://www.meade.com/support/etxautofaq.html#a12 "Q: Can my Autostar handbox be used with more than one ETX-90AT telescope? "A: Yes, it can. However, each time the Autostar handbox is connected to a different telescope, the handbox must be Reset. The first time an Autostar handbox is plugged in and the Initialization sequence begun, the handbox is matched to the telescope drive motors through a function called "Testing Motors." Connecting the Autostar handbox to another telescope without following the Reset process will result in errors since the matching of Autostar to the telescope never occurred. The Reset option is found under the Setup menu category." I also read somewhere guy installing autostar in his telescope, I am not sure if it will work for you.. Occasionally you see ETX fork mounts sans OTAs on Astromart. Best bet? Sell the scope and buy an Autostar model. You can't just plug the Autostar into one of the non computerized scopes...there wouldn't be any place to plug it into, for starters.
