If you've had experience with this scope, maybe you can help here.

For a description see

I almost dislike wasting time on this topic, but here's the story. A lady
approached me through our museum about this scope. She got it for free at a
garage sale, and wants to give it to her 10-11 year old son for Christmas.
It rattles. I said I'd take a look at it. After spending about 10 minutes
(less!) on it, I realized this is not a good scope for anyone. Amazingly,
it's sold for $140-150. However, I thought I'd see what the problem is.

There is a small piece of metal inside the tube. It can be seen when looking
through the objective end. I thought I'd disassemble it and take it. The
stopping point is two knobs. In the picture on the URL, the knob is on the
tube at the end of the long section. It's a few inches behind the B in
BUSHNELL. A knob is on either side. A axis goes through the tube and the
knobs on are on either end. They strongly resist being taken off. I could
probably pop one off, but it's likely to break something. Anyone know the
trick? Maybe they are glued on. If I can get them off, I'm pretty sure I can
then get into the upper part of the tube.

I do not plan to spend much time on this. If I can't get inside the tube,
then I'll tell the lady that she should consider some other astro device for
her son. This is a pretty sad scope for astronomy, and will more likely
deter her son from going further.

Sorry to say but bushnell is on the bottem of the "Department Store" feeding
pile.

I believe it. Interesting that they bought out Tasco. Gag. What's worse for
me is that this summer I was thinking of buying a Bushnell birding scope.
Although it did seem quite good, I knew they had slipped a lot over the last
few decades.

My plan is to see if I can have the telescope to use as an example of what
not to buy.

The objective should unscrew. They got the lens on there
somehow. The loose piece ought then to fall right out.

Besides whatever is rattling around inside, what can you see
through the eyepiece when you point the telescope at something?

The instruction manual, such as it is, is on-line at this url:

www.bushnell.com/customer_service/manuals/telescopes/78-9570_Voyager.pdf

Bushnell telescopes pretty much suck out loud.

Yes, definitely suck. See my comments to the other poster above this. I'm
pretty sure it's the same manual I have.
