Subject: Q:First scope?

Hi.
I find this scope PowerSeeker 127 EQ (
http://www.telescopes.com/products/celestron-powerseeker-127-eq-33267.html )
, and it cost only 147,95 US$. It vill be my first scope, and I like to know
your expirience with this skop, and your opinion. Have one more question:
between celestron 114/900 and this scope, which vill you choose? I vill use
scope for wieving planets and deep sky objects.

Amen to the dobsonian recommendation. You couldn't go wrong with the
XT6. I have a FirstScope 90 refractor, and definitely enjoy it, but I
use my dob ten times more often.

The advantages of the German mount have been debated on this forum ad
nauseum. As a relative newbie myself, I don't find much difference
between pushing a dobsonian to keep it in position versus spinning the
slo-mo cables.

For me at least, the dobsonian is ten times easier for locating
objects, ESPECIALLY if you spring for the QuikFinder or Telrad.
However, using the GEM mount got me more familiar with right ascension
and declination conceptually.

Clear skies.

That model uses a relay lens to make the tube shorter. While I haven't
tried that particular model, a friend of mine has a Meade with the
lens, and it's a major disadvantage. Even if you use better eyepieces,
the relay lens creates a weak link. The 114 does not use the relay
lens.

Having said this, I'd really recommend a Dobsonian. They're much more
stable at high powers than an inexpensive tripod mount. Orion makes
the best small ones. The XT6 is $259.
