Subject: Orion Lasermate question

I have a question on the Orion Lasermate collimater. The first (lower cost)
one, not the Deluxe version (though it may also apply to the Deluxe version)

Does this take 2 or 3 batteries? or does it matter?

I accidentally left it on and the batteries died. Inside I found two
batteries. However most "laser pointers" use 3 batteries. Orion sells
replacement batteries in 3 packs. The instructions for replacing the
batteries say install 3 batteries. Both configurations work .. that is ..
both 2 and 3 cells fit, and both 2 and 3 cells make the laser light up.

Is there any advantage in using 2 cells, or any disadvantage in using 3
cells?
