Subject: Orion Intelliscope Controller Problem
|
I purchased an Orion XT10 Intelliscope with the computerized hand controller in January of this year, and have enjoyed many hours of use so far. However, in April, the hand controller began having a problem. The display would dim to the point of unusability after about 2-5 minutes of use, regardless of what brightness setting I was using for the display. Attempting to power down and up the unit did not resolve the problem, nor did replacing the battery with a brand new one. The dealer that I purchased the telescope from had Orion send me a replacement controller. I did not have the opportunity to use the new controller until today due to business trips and family holidays, but when I powered up the new controller, I noticed two things: 1. The controller says "align dec mark" instead of "point intelliscope vertical" when I power it on. I am guessing that this hand controller is actually for one of Orion's equatorial mounts. Will it work on the Dobsonian mount of the XT10? 2. The controller is having the same problem that the original controller did, gradually dimming to the point of unusability after a couple of minutes. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, were you able to fix it? Thanks, Greg

I accidentally discovered that last night, but unfortunately the problem with the unit dimming to unusability is still continuing. I still managed to have a great night observing without the controler though. Thanks, Greg
