In addition to the 1 1/2 day waxing crescent before the new Moom on the
23rd, 4 planetary
bodies will be within 4 1/2 degs (in order of rising) just before
sunrise tomorrow:

Venus
Moon
Saturn
and last - Mercury

It will make for a good wide-field astrophoto opportunity.

Thanks for the notice! I caught the grouping this morning from a site
between 45 and 46 degrees north latitude in the northwestern U.S. My
best view was with 8x42 binoculars. Venus was a brilliant white. The
Moon (a very slim crescent with just a hint of earthshine) and Saturn
were a much less brilliant white, perhaps with a slight yellowish
tint. These objects were in a bluish sky. Mercury was below a pair
of grayish cloud strips and immersed in a somewhat murky, rusty-orange
sky. (I recently got more forest fire smoke in my sky.) Mercury
shined with a yellow-crimson color and was brighter than Saturn. The
entire grouping was above a horizon consisting of silhouetted pine
trees over 200 yards away. I foresee a painting in the near future
;-)

The angular separation between Mercury and Venus was between 7 and 8
degrees.

Here's a photo from a guy in Hawaii who caught all four, but you have to
really blow up the picture to see Mercury and Saturn.

That's a nice photo. I could make out Mercury and Saturn without
blowing it up (I knew where to look). The photo was clearly taken
after my viewing. The moon was north of Saturn for me and moved
midway between (but north of) Saturn and Mercury by the time the group
rose in Hawaii.
