Hello. Unfortunately, I am in need of money to pay my credit card
bills. If you could spare just $1, I would be grateful. I have a Paypal
account. Kramer1260@hotmail.com. I swear this will go to my card
balances. Thank you.

He's gotta be a Yankee, Nigerians do this kind of thing with much more style.
For one thing, they don't stoop to asking for a mere $1.

It looks like he could at least have tried to sound a bit more
pathetic but then the cheek of it might actually work? Surely not
though. Please keep us informed of how you go.

What's being measured? The number of emails, or the dollars stolen?
If it's the number of spam emails being measured, you can't just
multiply by the old numbers by the growth in email volume (a kind of
statistical game I have seen played often by media-types). The fact is
people are much less likely to respond to the 19th attempt than the
first. Anybody here only received one 419-type spam?

Figures don't lie, but liars do figure.

Maybe so, maybe not. Years ago I got involved in a chain letter that
only asked for a dollar. You then sent it on to eight people. Could get
$16,000 if everyone carried it through. I got about $400 at a time when
I really needed the money.
At the same time, a co-worker got involved with another chain. His
needed $100 up front and only sent it out to 4 people. Because of the
high entry level (this was 1975 and a hundred bucks was about four days
wages) he didn't get squat and the higher amounts led to a higher
signature on the police radar with a number of the players getting
arrested.
Maybe Nigerians haven't learned to be less greedy....

The Nigerians have been somewhat successful:

QUOTE
The best 419 statistics ever published until our 419 Unit published its 419
stats in March 2006, were given by Special Agent Craig Spraggins of the US
Secret Service, who was Special Agent in Charge of the now defunct Joint
West African Fraud Task Force in testimony before a US Congressional
subcommittee in 1998.
He said that estimated US losses per annum were $300 million, and estimated
total losses worldwide per annum were $750 million (making the rest of the
world's figure $450 million per annum).
You can multiply that by the number of years 419 has been running (25 plus)
to arrive at a figure of some $19 Billion plus dollars. There is no need to
lower the estimates or take a more conservative point of view, since it has
been a faster growing business since the year 2000 with an explosive growth
in 2003.

I was just watching "Whose Line Is It Anyway", and I was inspired by
Drew. Hell - I'll pitch in 10,000 myself....

........Excuse me?

Oh, I misunderstood. You want REAL money. I only give out points.

Sorry, Charlie.

P.S. - I "killfiled" the original post, but as so many others
responded I felt obligated to add something as well. :)

google does not care about abuse. The best thing you can do is
ignore all posts made via google-groups, and all replies to these.

Google "Many Pennies +for Mike." Worked for him, but as Bob Greene
pointed out in the column all those years ago the potential problem was
that people willing to give would simply never get around to mailing
the penny. Paypal makes it far more convienent.

Not that I'll be giving... I've got a fuckton* of credit card debt
myself (though there are people out there that redefine the fuckton and
make me feel really good about my financial situation), and I owe my
brother money too. <donation nazi >No buck for you!</donation nazi>
