I vote that the "significant find" was the MRO images of VIkings 1 and
2

Given that the panel consists of Mike Malin, Ken Edgett, and Phil
Christensen, it's most likely related to MGS and, specifically, TES data.
My best guess is it is minerological detection of present/very recent
water. The timing so soon after the (probable) loss of MGS is interesting.
I'll bet they've been sitting on the result for months and only now decided
to release it to offset the negative "MGS is toast" news stories.

That's nonsense. As someone who once worked for Mike Malin I can tell
you that's not how these people think.

And someone said running water? That's not currently possible on Mars.
Maybe flowing mud with "water tubes" or something, but no liquid water.

Oops! I was really poking fun at the general NASA PR engine, rather than
those guys in particular. I know that scientists can't keep anything a
secret for more than 5 seconds! :-) Sorry for the confusion; those guys
are my heroes.

Those (though very cool) have already been released. This is going to be something
in addition to those.

Place your bets, ladies and gentlemen:

[1] Running water
[2] Some kind of life (mould, lichen etc)
[3] Non-human tech (ruins, jars etc)
[4] Shadow vessel.

(actually, in all seriousness [1] is what seems to be touted as likely).

Yeah, I agree. Probably not a nice pond, it'll probably be an instance
where a warm spell caused permafrost to melt and caused a short-lived
mudslide, or something along those lines.

I remember reading long, long ago.... like, in the Viking days, that on
the Martian equator, there were brief times, in Martian summer, when it got
up to 60 or 70 degrees F.

We all know that the Shadows from ZaHaDom buried a ship on mars, so maybe
they stopped a tiny bit of it showing up!
