Subject: Lunar bright rayed crater observing window Wed to Sat
|
The Moon usually rises 50 minutes later each night. Around the equinoxes, this period shortens to about 20-30 mins. The result is at the Harvest Moon - the full Moon closest to the equinox - there are several days of a consecutive nearly fully illuminated Moon. Beginning Wednesday through Saturday there will be almost 100 hours of continuous bright light between the Sun and the near full Moon. Full Moon is on Thursday, 10-7, 3:13 UTC. This may be a good observing window for studying bright rayed craters and bright radial banded craters on the Moon's surface. For a list of bright rayed craters see: ALPO Bright Crater Ray Project http://www.zone-vx.com/alpo-rays.html Bright ray crater list http://www.zone-vx.com/alpo-rays-table.pdf For a list of radial banded craters see - ALPO Lunar Observer Sept 2006 Edition at pp. 8-9 http://www.zone-vx.com/TLO200609.pdf - Canopus56
