Subject: Looking for a "Best Buy" Among Dobs

In the spirit of Consumer Reports, I'm looking for a "Best Buy" among the
Dob offerings. I'd like to add it to our museum's collection of telescopes
primarily to let people know about Dobs. Too often I come across people who
have bought some inexpensive poorly mfgered GEM that within days they
abandon, so I want to at least show them the simplicity and ease of use of a
Dob. Maybe anywhere from $150 to $300. It could be a 4-6".

"And why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not
perceive the plank in your own eye? "Or how can you say to your
brother, 'Brother, let me remove the speck that is in your eye,' when
you yourself do not see the plank that is in your own eye? Hypocrite!
First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly
to remove the speck that is in your brother's eye."
Luke 6:41-42 NKJV

In verse 41, Jesus states, "Why to you look and find fault with your
brother's spiritual walk, how he believes or lives." When you can't see
the big fault in your own Christian walk, life style or belief. He says
first remove that fault, habit or belief of your own. It may be a sin
you need to get rid of by the power of the Holy Spirit, or maybe a
gross false teaching you may have retained from the traditions of men.
Such a teaching may be like a plank in your eye because it has
prevented you from perceiving so much truth from the Scriptures.

Based on your context of "museum collection," I suggest anything that is
based on John Dobson's original design. I.e., no Orions (they use springs),
or those that use roller bearings, truss tubes, or any such fancy design
changes. A basic wooden box on teflon bearings oughta satisfy your
requirements.

Whenever I'm asked to suggest a beginner scope, I suggest the Orion
XT-6 Classic (the one without the extra "IntelliScope" hardware).
