-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- The viciously Anti-Christian Liberal Atheists of the DNC, ACLU, NAMBLA, PTA, Board of Education & other Anti-American *garbage*, they are absolutely *infuriate* over this morning's singing of 'Battle Hymn Of The Republic' during the memorial tribute held at the Pentagon by VP Dick Cheney, SW Don Rumsfeld, and others in attendance -- a song written explicitly to the glory of God and His first-begotten Son, our LORD and Saviour, Jesus Christ. As a reminder, here are the complete lyrics to this great song [ref. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_Hymn_Of_The_Republic]: ____________________________________________________________________ "Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord: He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored; He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword: His truth is marching on. (Chorus) Glory, glory, hallelujah! Glory, glory, hallelujah! Glory, glory, hallelujah! His truth is marching on I have seen Him in the watch-fires of a hundred circling camps, They have builded Him an altar in the evening dews and damps; I can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps: His day is marching on. Chorus I have read a fiery gospel writ in burnished rows of steel: "As ye deal with my condemners, so with you my grace shall deal; Let the Hero, born of woman, crush the serpent with His heel, Since God is marching on." Chorus He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat; He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgment-seat: Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him! be jubilant, my feet! Our God is marching on. Chorus In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea, With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me: As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free, While God is marching on. Chorus He is coming like the glory of the morning on the wave, He is Wisdom to the mighty, He is Succour to the brave, So the world shall be His footstool, and the soul of Time His slave, Our God is marching on. Chorus" ____________________________________________________________________ *VOTE* Republican! (send the God-hating Liberal *garbage* to HELL!) Oh well. :) Hopefully, by the time the Republicans are done wiping their asses with the Constitution and the religious majority gets their way, they'll wake up and find that the majority has become Roman Catholic and they won't have a Constitution to protect their Protestant asses. It'll serve them right, the assholes.

In a way, Christ was born in a floral setting, one whose beauty was unanimously neglected by the same Renaissance painters who glorified many other aspects of the Madonna's beauty. If only Georgia O'Keefe had lived back then...

Which is where the grapes were stored, for sure. A good look at Richmond after the bombardment is surely a trampling worth remembering. The Battle Hymn is a War Chant and a rather good one at that, regardless of one's theology. "In the beauty of the lilies, Christ was born accross the sea with a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free, While God is marching on." Now Christ was not born in the beauty of the lilies. By the story, he was born in a stable whose floor was covered with animal shit (such is the way with stables, which are really shit houses for animals). So the words are not true, but they surely are moving. Bob Kolker

"The Greek phatne: is used to designate the place in which Mary laid the infant Jesus after he was born (Luke 2:7, 12, 16 and once in Luke 13:15). In classical Greek the word always means manger. The Septuagint, however, uses it to translate three rare words, which mean stall, fodder and enclosure for cattle. It seems most probable that the Septuagint did not understand these words and used the more common phatne:, which does no violence to the context. Some scholars, however, have suggested that phatne: in Luke 2 means stall not manger; in this view Mary and Joseph actually were lodged in the inn (Greek katalyma), but laid the child in a stall because the inn was crowded. They believe that it is much more credible to suppose that Mary and joseph lodged in the inn than in a cave in the hillside. The frequent use of the caves as shelter and even as dwellings throughout Palestinian history does not render this view any more credible. It is true, however, that no cave is mentioned in Luke, and there seems to be no reason for mentioning the katalyma except that Mary and Joseph were lodged there, but had to palce the infant either in a stall or in a manger. The tradition that Jesus was born in a cave is attested in the 2nd century AD, but it is impossible to trace a continuous living tradition from the birth of Jesus." Many such homes from the first century seem to have had hollowed out stone feeding places along outside walls.
