IIRC, he was jailed before, and still came to rule Iraq. An executed Hussein would be a martyr for the Baathist cause, but would mean that the Baath folks would almost certainly have bloody internal power struggles for supremacy that could be exploited by the Iraqi government. > Credit for capturing Saddam goes to the military, not to the > Republicans, none of which were out in the field looking for him. > > Credit for the trial goes to the Iraqi tribunal for gathering evidence > and doing their jobs. I hate to get into off topic posts but Saddam really deserves to be ranted at, 5 to 10 min a piece, by every person who had a relative tortured or killed. I figure that would eventually make him want to take his own life. Then we just keep him alive till the line of people runs out Then his execution should be on 2,4,5 and 7 (I live in L.A.) and should be required watching for everyone. Drawing and quartering is too good for him. Ant hills come to mind as a possible alternative. He was a really bad boy and you know, sometimes it isn't a good idea to rehabilitate the really evil bastards (Hitler, Stalin, Mao, etc.) James E. My prediction -- even if the news > is as bad as can be imagined for Danny Boy, he'll be on the job again > within a week. Probably even more demented spewing against the > Liberals. And probably more astrology drivel. That may be true. Hell, it is almost guaranteed to be true. Reality and Min have a difficult and distant relationship. My giddiness comes more from the fact that, for several years, Min's political spew was not entirely groundless. Repugs *did* hold all three branches of government, and *did* use them to further an agenda that combined radical hard-right (not conservative) 'values' with incompetence in every area of government (except getting goodies for their friends), adding a supcon of sheer bloodthirstiness and a light sprinkling of 'I'm better than my daddy'. Today, we begin to take back our country. By 'we', I don't mean Democrats, although they are the proximate agents of national salvation. I mean 'we' as in Americans who believe America stands for something more than sheer power and money and unrighteous self-righteousness. I look forward in hope to seeing "Justice roll down like waters in a mighty stream", as the Prophet Amos said. Justice will be painful for us; we have much to answer for as a people. But ultimately, if we are drawn back to being the America of the best of us, the travail will have been worth it. So fuck Min. He's beyond help, and I don't imagine that will change with a changed reality. But I am giddy at the thought that we can get back to the business of making our country better than it was, and closer to what we want to be. Excuse me; I'm off to vote now.

Expanding on the previous article ... Secretly planted on the USENET in out of the way places by a time traveller from the future (the real-life inspiration behind the Heroes TV series) Dated 2000 November 11 "sending the rest of them off in war to the Middle East to kick Saddam Hussein's ass..." Dated 2000 October 28 "We don't need wimps or daddy's little boys running our country..." Excerpted from below... Dated 2003 April 15 http://groups.google.com/group/rec.running/msg/3093e6a5eb128b63?dmode=source&hl=en "Bush will serve no more than 2 terms as president. He is the last man who will ever be elected president of the United States. But the United States will elect a president in 2008." ======== Dated 2000 October 28 http://groups.google.com/group/comp.arch/msg/76bc5b75fe107a26?dmode=source&hl=en "No person of sound (and honest) mind can sincerely take issue with the notion of a politician who lies. It's the very definition of the profession!" "In fact, the truth is that unless a politician is willing, able and ready to seek out every opportunity to lie, cheat, steal, kill foreign enemies and weasel occupying forces into their territory, opportunistically jump on every bandwagon that's good for the people and take credit for every development and invention that he had the tiniest most peripheral involvement in -- then they have no business being in politics and should go back to mommie and daddy where they belong. Because this is what a politican is SUPPOSED to be, dammit!" "We don't need wimps or daddy's little boys running our country. We need dominant, duplicitious apes who never show the same face twice and enjoy trashing timid politician wannabes, while bullying the damn issues through a Congress that will thank him for ramming those issues up their collective asses." "We need politicians who have not been so thoroughly politically correctified that they've forgotten the fact that that's what those young female 20-something interns are for (while they're on the phone telling the foreign minister what he can do with his puny forces)!" ========= Dated 2004 October 10 http://groups.google.com/group/soc.men/msg/9562fdc5ec8accfb?dmode=source&hl=en Debate 1 Part I Dated 2004 October 6 http://groups.google.com/group/soc.men/msg/1baf2c481505acd3?dmode=source&hl=en "Kerry: 'The President bungled up the pretext to his whole mission and, in the process, alienated the entire world, snatching the ire of the world from the jaws of universal sympathy.'" 'George Bush might have been able to pull off the rallying of support back in the 1990's. But you, Mr. President, are no George Bush.'" ======== Dated 2000 November 11 http://groups.google.com/group/talk.politics.misc/msg/7192bcfe46c11626?dmode=source&hl=en "[The Definition of a] Conservative: To feel satisfaction, we will tell the rest of the goddamned planet that they damn well better worship Jesus H. Frickin' Christ or else (a) God will strike them down on His fury and condemn them to an eternal existence in Hell, and (b) only after we get through rounding them up into ghettoes, asphyxiating them with carbon monoxide poisoning by relentlessly driving our gas-guzzling SUVs around and through their frickin' grafitti-infested slime holes with our newly constructed freeways cutting wide swaths through the mists of their neighborhoods, sending the rest of them off in war to the Middle East to kick Saddam Hussein's ass so that we can keep our precious oil fix so as to do the abovementioned deeds, to poison them by running huge drug farms in North Carolina and Virginia and rampantly pushing the drugs (a.k.a. nicotine) on them, and when all is said and done detonating a couple nukes on their sorry pathetic ignorant asses." ======== Dated 2006 February 8 http://groups.google.com/group/alt.wisdom/msg/25d407db6f9b4f7e?dmode=source&hl=en "The Footprint of Providence was seen once before, When on Independence Day, #2&3 were no more. But the developed world is already in the midsts of a massive pendulum shift toward the liberal end of the spectrum --- the counterpart of the shift toward the right that began in Scandinavia in the 1970's. In the US it will first show up in 2006. But not along party lines; along another fault line, that will make itself increasingly felt over time."
