the off-topic nuts in this group concentrated on bones in coal and dinosaur turds and God and things like that. All this U.S. politics and U.S. conspiracy stuff is dull. At least all the ratbag pseudo-scientific stuff is international.

Because those who made the decisions were just beauracratic puppets tasked with making an insufficient budget work to the best of their ability? Refute my prior claim that the 911 commission report should be null (and redone by true independents), due to the misuse of the word "independent", or that NIST input should be considered biased due to their plainly being a government organization. Or do you prefer to be those who figured it out soon enough to help your fellow Americans who only seek the truth and answers about 9/11. Larry Larry

Oh, And quoted from NIST's home page- "NIST is a non-regulatory federal agency within the U.S. Commerce Department's Technology Administration". So that means their "independent" investigations and conclusions are a "conflict of interest" which clearly could represent the governments agenda and not the interests of the American people. So where is the "independent" investigation that many Americans are requesting? Larry

"shut up and buy a telescope". I I suggest buying an American made one since their value will only increase as time goes by and no one here in the states is producing them anymore as our economy continues to crash. If you think this doesn't affect us as Astronomers, think again- How many NASA projects have we seen cut because of NASA budget cuts and increased military spending? Did we lose 2 shuttles because of this lack of funding? Why does my daughter who 5 years in a row was on the dean's list thru highschool and freshman college, is considered low income yet still can't get more than $500-1000 in scholarships (which are mostly are from private donations), has to work 3 jobs to afford it, but still has to take out $8000 a year in student loans for which she'll owe banks about $150,000-200,000 in interest before she's done paying them off? And these are the scientists, Astronomers, Cosmologists of the future that our government is failing to invest in. "Supremacy in Space" is the current drine for the Bush administration. "Superiority" I could by, but Supremecy means we will have the power to deny others access to a place our entire planet has a right to. Scientists from abroad, how do you feel about that? So you are wrong if you think this doesn't affect us. I put this together this morning- Here is the general bios info of the members of the supposedly "Independent" 911 Commission report, and feel free to follow the links attached to each profile. (read my commentary on the bottom of the page as well)- Thomas H Keen governor of New Jersey 1982-90, son is currently NJ state senator http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_H._Kean Lee H Hamilton US House of Representatives 34 years, currently serves on the presidents homeland security council http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee_H._Hamilton Richard Ben-Veniste History of being a thorn in the side of many politicians but methods and possible alliances questionable. Read the second link as well. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Ben-Veniste http://www.dcdave.com/article2/990124.html Bob Kerry governor (1983-87) and senator (1989-01) for Nebraska http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Kerry Fred F. Fielding Associate counsel for Nixon, and counsel to the president for Reagan http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_F._Fielding John F. Lehman American investment banker, secretary of the navy during the Reagan administration http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_F._Lehman Jamie S. Gorelick number two official in the U.S. Department of Justice during the Clinton administration http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jamie_S._Gorelick Timothy J. Roemer State representative 2001-2003 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timothy_J._Roemer Slade Gorton US Senator from 1981-87, and 1989-2001 from Washington State http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slade_Gorton James R. Thompson Governor of Illinois 1977-91, former Us attorney for the northern district of Illinois whose job it was to represent the United States in civil and criminal litigation in court http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_R._Thompson And there you have it folks. These are the "independent" individuals who drafted the current "Independent" 911 Commission Report. Every one of them is a present or past politician, irregardless of political party they belong to. This screams of "conflict of interest" for all of them, and they are certainly not the independent entities that we would like to see performing the task of investigating 911 for the American people. Well right now, we need the military a whole lot, so $$ have to be spent there. Without soldiers, there can be no teachers dors, and scientists. We really are at war right now... (younger son getting ready to deploy to Iraq soon,) IMHO, the shuttles were an extremely flawed idea from the start. If we had gone the AF route in the 60's, we would have had the X 20 Dyna Soar, which would have led to a family of space vehicles, in a progressive, and orderly fashion. The shuttles were a compromise right from the start. We are paying the price for this over and over. NASA just cant seem to run itself properly IMHO. Far as I'm concerned, NASA shot both of those shuttles down, and no one else. It wasnt about $$, it was about poor leadership ability, and political pressure. You can look it up/read about it yourself... What cost for our older kid for five years at R.I.T (all on the deans list too) All the family helped out, though he still owes a LOT. But he got the high paying job, and is living in San Fransisco and doing very well. And... paying off his student load (s) too. But it took an entire family effort to help get him there. All bush is doing is giving lip service to those of use who have wanted man to not only return to the moon but to keep on the long road that leads to the stars someday. For funding what he has said we'd be doing, ya right, with our troops in two countrys dieing each day and with gear that was made by the cheapest builder and he's giving more money to those same 3rd class builders, why he'll alone bring down the pop of the USA by a factor of 10 if he was to stay in office. I have talked to a LOT of soldiers who have been over in Iraq and Afghanistan already, and your views are 180 degrees to their own. A good analogy of the dem's point of view right now is their reaction to the 911 movie that just came out. I've talked to enough of the ones that have made it back to know otherwise. Hummers are about the only good thing that keeps running, that is until it rolls over something and gets blown up. tanks getting dust enough into their engines that they brakedown, thankfully we had better stuff over in Vietnam. I just came from a fellow vets trailer, gave him cpr for almost 30 mins while the meat wagon and firemen came and took over. No he's gone now, gone and crossed the field to forever stand guard with others. -- The Lone Sidewalk Astronomer of Rosamond Telescope Buyers FAQ http://home.inreach.com/starlord Sidewalk Astronomy www.sidewalkastronomy.info Astronomy Net Online Gift Shop http://www.cafepress.com/astronomy_net In Garden Online Gift Shop http://www.cafepress.com/ingarden Blast Off Online Gift Shop http://www.cafepress.com/starlords Astro Blog http://starlord.bloggerteam.com/ "AM" <sctuser@comcast.net > wrote in message news:kZKdncKwZJDyRZTYnZ2dnUVZ_vOdnZ2d@comcast.com... > Starlord wrote: >> All bush is doing is giving lip service to those of use who have wanted >> man to not only return to the moon but to keep on the long road that >> leads to the stars someday.
