Sing this to "going to the chaplet"

Going to the Hubble and were going to get repaired

Cuss were going to the Hubble and were going to repaired

Gee I really love you and were going to get gyros

The sky is black

and were going to get new instruments .

Any way you get the idea.

Even the astronauts said they'd risk their lives to fix it.
That is the mark of a great scientific instrument and something that
has been a clear benefit to the advancement of science.

You will NEVER hear anyone say that about the ISS right up until they
sell that junkpile as scrap to the Chinese.

Which brings up a good point. Why is there not a telescope on the space
station?

There is to much going on at the space station to permit the inclusion
of an astronomical telescope there. If nothing else the exhaust gasses
from the Progress Capsules and the Space Shuttle would contaminate the
instrument. Be sides the astronomers would still have to use remote
sensing to make observations so the instrument may as well be in it's
own orbit.

Why should there be? Space telescopes do the job much better because the
ISS isn't an
observatory and couldn't accomodate a large telescope anyway. Grow a brain
will ya?!

The ISS is an observatory--a bit of self education wouldn't hurt you

So you say. Nevertheless the ISS serves as an observatory.

No it doesn't serve as an astronomical observatory!! Grow a brain. The
word implies
astronomical not scientific. You are mincing words. If they are doing
atronomy on it, in a significant way, specify
and prove it. I'll eat my words and my feet if this to be true..so help me
God!

You are too insignificant... if you really wanted to know, you would

Ahh, I rest my case.

well, there was no "Port" designed for one. They couldn't use a normal
reflector, it would have to be something like a sct or a refractor. It would
have to have been a port designed to be built into the wall with the scope
installed before flight. Otherwise the only way to have a scope would be a
total remort operated one mounted out on one of the far support beams.

I thought they were going to launch the Webb within a reasonable
time-frame so a dead Hubble would only mean a year or two of zero
observations. Turns out, the Hubble could be dead very quickly and the
Webb is 10 years out! They had no choice for the sake of high quality
observations to preserve the Hubble.

There is/was an ongoing project to do this:

http://www.issat.org/

But I do not thnk it will go anywhere now as I do not see the payload
on any shuttle manifest.
