I am setting up a home optics workbench where I will be wanting an optical table. What is the recommended method of building one? Here is a short discussion of a commercial one. http://www.vere.com/html/breadboards_and_tables.html Any links, suggestions or pictures would be appreciated. Thanks TMT

In the institute I worked they had thick ,machined cast iron tables 3 by 3 meters size, and they used a lot of magnets with some release tab to put components in a fixed place. (Hey spell check had no objections) :) ;)

Thanks for responding.... Well I considered that telescopes would be area of interest for optic benches....spectrographs are another area. Maybe no one builds their scopes any more? ;<) TMT Edward Erbeck wrote: > Too_Many_Tools asked: > > >> I am setting up a home optics workbench where I will be wanting an > >> optical table. > >> > >> What is the recommended method of building one? > >> > >> > >> Here is a short discussion of a commercial one. > >> > >> > >> http://www.vere.com/html/breadboards_and_tables.html > >> > >> > >> Any links, suggestions or pictures would be appreciated. > >> > > Given the link, I'm guessing you might get more information from a group > interested in Holographic Imaging. There are many different requirements for Optical Fabrication and Utilization. A 50 gallon sand filled "Oil" Drums will work for Optical Fab. if needed. You seemed to specify a need for vibration isolation given the link. Crazy Ed
