Question,

If the directorship of the Los Angleles Griffith Observatoy is a
civil service position, how did Ed Krupp get the job without ever
taking a Civil Service Exam. ?

Maybe covering up for the petty theif who was the director before him,
William (Billy Jerk) Kaufmann and becoming part of the Department of
Parks and Recreation Treft Ring cover up had something to do with it ?
?

The city of LA spent 93 milliom dollars rebuilding the GO. The
planetarioum theater holds about 400 people per show. At $15.00 per
person per show and at three shows per day, it will take about 43
years to pay this back to the citizens of L. A.

Krupp has been director for 33 years.

I have three phrases for this,

There is a nice article about Dr. Krupp in today's LA Times describing
his tenure there.
As the Observatory reopens, this is not a time to open old wounds and
complain.

Many people in both paid and unpaid positions have worked very hard to
make the observatory into a world-class educational facility for
generations to enjoy for years to come. Like the people that volunteer
to work at Mt. Wilson, it is a labor of love.

It is time to celebrate this grand facility. Let old grudges go....
I do give you credit for using your real name and phone number, but as

Krupp made so many people miserable and if I ever find out who lit his

You sir, are a fool and a jerk. The city of LA has been using the G.O.
to launder illegal money for years and propably will continue to do so
when our grand childeren are living in LA.

But then again, I might be wrong. Who is to say ?

There are a lot of really bad vibes at the G. O. and have been for
many years.

Probably because of the worker's ghost that is burried in the
building, during the cement pour of 1933. A worker disappeared during
the original construction and the place has been in a state of unrest
ever since.

There have been reports of hauntings, generally after 10 pm, on Monday
nights since 1933. The City of L.A. has been covering it up ever
since.

Krupp has been in contact with the Druids trying to get rid of the
ghost but to no avail. There have been many reported "happenings" at
the G. O. The place has been in a state of psychic unrest for many
years.

Why do you think they closed it for so many years? It certainly was
not to paint the place. There have been over 20 seers there trying to
get rid of the evil spirits there. They finally gave up.

The observatory always closes at exactly 10 pm. This keeps the pubic
from frinding out about the G. O.'s dark secrets.

On ober 31, 1971 while I was the part time photographer, I
personally saw the ghost in the hall of science. It floated above the
Solar telescope window. It was very upset and it spoke to me. It was
very scary.

I had a witness with me but she refuses to testify.

Is this stuff really true? I know that paranormal phenomena exists and there
is a research department at Duke University that investigates these types of
occurrences. Where can I find additional information regarding the haunting
of Griffith Observatory?

One thing really does not make sense: If the observatory really is haunted,
it seems that fact would attract even more folks and the observatory would
be more profitable.

Of course not. I made the whole thing up.

Funny how a human will believe in ghosts and goblins and not want to
believe that a complete ass hole can be the director of the Griffith
Observatory for over 30 years. :-)

The folks who run the Department of Parks and Recreation of Los
Angeles also belong to the Film Actors Guild.

Go Figure.

I am sure that Anthony, who comes from the country where our philosophy and
our logic were born, fully appreciates this mix of American values: cold
rational business sense and spiritual (if I dare say so) awareness! ;-0

This makes three times you have posted material attacking various
people in leadership positions at the Griffitn Observatory.

I don't even know where the Griffith Observatory is but it sounds too
me as though you must have been fired for incompetence and now you're
pissing and moaning about the people who fired you.

Go tell it to the chaplain -- maybe he'll give a shit.

I quite in 1975 because I could not work for of the crooked people who
were running both it and the department of parks and recreation.

I was not fired.

Never been fired from any job in my life.

They tried to fire the secretary when she blew the wistle on Kaufman
for dipping his fingers into the petty cash fund, but they were not
able to do so so. Then they put Kaufman on a one year paid leave or
absence after which Krupp was moved in.

Sounds like you are a Kruppy.

You can believe anything you want to believe about the place. Then
again, you were not there, I was.

So the citizens are not out the whole 93 mil. Considering the lack of
infrastructure in L.A., I'd say they could have used the money better
patching pot holes in the street or hiring more police.

The City of LA did not provide all of the $93 million for the renovation
work. They provided $26.4 million. The county provided more through a
bond measure approved by the voters, the state provided a little and the
rest came from private donations including about $30 million raised by
Friends of the Observatory, $1 million from Leanoard Nimoy and more.

Many of us believe that Griffith Observatory is important enough to
renovate and improve whether it returns all of the expenditure in a short
time or not. The original donor of the funds for the observatory felt the
same way and his investment has paid off many times over in non-monetary
ways.

What is a Civil Service Exam and what does it have to do with Mr Krupp being
qualified to run the observatory? I thought Civil Service Exams are an exam
given to folks applying for a position at the local Post Office.

There any number of "civil" positions that require the civil service exam
as a standard part of an application. In some positions this requirement can be
waived. In others like law enforcement, it cannot be waived.

The poster however has longstanding deep seated issues which he
obviously has failed to adjust to and get over, to his great personal
detriment. Some people become their own worst enemies.

Let's see if I understand this:

-- You had a witness but she's afraid to testify.
-- Everyone there except you and your mythical witness is a crook.
-- "They" are laundering money through the observatory.
-- The observatory is haunted by the spirit of a worker killed there
during construction.

Have you told Art Bell about this stuff? Bell would love it -- you
could be on the Art Bell Show, coast to coast, fellow loons could call
in and you could share your stories.

I sure hope that part of the GO's budget goes to adequate
security...based on some of the postings here, they will have to be
vigilant.

Yes it will be Huell Howser's show.

I talked with Mary Brown of the LAAS and she will be at the opening
ceremony. She is one of many who have worked hard and will continue to
work hard to make GO a success. SHe is spending many weekends there,
volunteering.

Considering the G.O. hosted the optical shop of the LAAS from 1934 to
1971 and then was ejected like a bad warp core it is surprising that
the LAAS is on that good of terms with the G. O.

A lot of French collaborated with the NAZIs during WWII thinking that
they were not dealing with the devil but making the best out of a bad
situation. They found themselves with a lot of short hair cuts in
1944.

I bet she never knew what it was like under Dr Clemeshaw's
administration when part time guides and other employees were treated
with respect.

Then again, maybe she is a KRUPPIE.

born an American and died an American. He was 14 years old during WWII
and had nothing to do with the Imperial Japanese Army. As a matter of
fact he served in the US Army during the Korean War as a U.S. Infantry

Ain't America great. As long as you are Anglo Saxon Protestant, your
off the hook unless you kill and eat people. The rest of us get to
prove our worth every damn day.

You should have tried being a short fat German square head kid at
Loyola High School in the 60's, filled with rich little Catholic Irish
Brats.

They never let me forget for one day that suspected me of being a
German Jew with a strangely shaped head.

I feel sorry now for folks from the Mid-East (ain't talking Chicago).
Guess it is there turn in the American crapper.

Oh, just because I'm an ass on the internaet, that does not make Krupp
cool.

One of the G.O.s artists nicknamed him the Teutonic Twerp, which still
seems to be an accurate description.
