Canadians are cheap bastards. When I did more dealings on Astromart, I'd exclude them. When an American buys, they buy. No tire kicking, no buyer's remorse. Canadians are the most indecisive clowns you've ever met.

Did you ever photocopy stuff from a > library? In the UK at least, in law, the maximum on this is limited in terms of how many pages you can do. Maximum of 5%, and if there is any commercial interest, then 0% (a copywrite fee has to be paid for everything). You can copy the whole of a book you own (to allow you to use the copy, to keep the original in good condition - this comes under 'fair use'), but if you dispose of the book, then the copy has to go as well. The same 'fair use' exemption, does allow small amounts of material to be copied in educational enviroments, without paying a fee, but this requires that the item is being copied, for work that will "enrich society's fund of knowledge and culture". As such copying in education, can be found to be 'fair use', but also often may not be, and would then be liable to need to pay a royalty. Basically if more is copied than is relevant to the point being learned/taught, then fair use will fail, and there have been a suprising number of cases where colleges/universities have ended up having to pay a significant fine over this. The same fair use provisions exist in the US 1976 copywrite act, but the limit on amount, is 10% for prose, and a whole load of other guidlines exist limiting how often the amounts may be copied etc.. Best Wishes

Did you ever photocopy stuff from a library? > I know I'm going to regret this, but: Michael, there is a world of difference between fair use, such as your example above, and flat out stealing. What you did, was steal from the author of the book. That book is his intellectual property. By scanning those pages, and then returning the book for a full refund you in effect stole a portion of his property. Furthermore, you stole from the dealer who sold you the book. This is really quite simple. You're not going to agree, I know this already. To point out to you that you are flat out wrong about this is just a waste of time. But it needs to be said.
