see Astromart ad with photos at: http://www.astromart.com/classifieds/details.asp?classified_id=443690 Discovery 8-inch Dobsonian telescope. This is the DHQ-8 with the white Formica covered particle board base. It is a sonotube type telescope (not a metal tube). It includes a Telrad and base. The focuser accepts 1-1/4 inch eyepieces only (not 2") but the focuser does have upgraded alloy knobs which smooth out the operation quite a bit. This scope is in excellent condition. It has been well cared for - with the exceptions noted below. It always impressed everyone who used it with its super sharp images. At star parties everyone always marveled at what a good mirror it had. (I do believe it is the standard mirror, though.) The thing also handles really smoothly. I installed Teflon pads and Ebony Star to the base. It swings really nicely. There are a couple of minor issues. One, the metal bracket that held spare eyepieces busted off and there's a couple of ripped out screw holes in the base as a result. Also, there's a few extra screw holes in the tube reflecting a history of minor modifications. None of these affect the operation at all and all are covered with the finest quality black photo tape available anywhere. Again, nice scope. The price is $275. The scope includes the two black shower-cap end covers it came with and also a blue nylon bag that sort of fits the tube. The big deal is that I don't have any way to ship this bad boy. If you want it, you have to come to Jefferson City, Missouri to pick it up. If you want to go play in the dark with it before you buy that can be arranged. I also have collimation tools and/or a laser collimator that I would sell with this scope. If you're just getting started and need eyepieces, etc. I can set you up with those too.
