Good !,

Here is what Newton thought of aether -

"The fictitious matter which is imagined as filling the whole of space
is of no use for explaining the phenomena of Nature, since the motions
of the planets and comets are better explained without it, by means of
gravity; and it has never yet been explained how this matter accounts
for gravity. The only thing which matter of this sort could do, would
be to interfere with and slow down the motions of those large celestial
bodies, and weaken the order of Nature; and in the microscopic pores of
bodies, it would put a stop to the vibrations of their parts which
their heat and all their active force consists in. Further, since
matter of this sort is not only completely useless, but would actually
interfere with the operations of Nature, and [314] weaken them, there
is no solid reason why we should believe in any such matter at all.
Consequently, it is to be utterly rejected." Newton
Optics 1704

The chances are that the indrinated majority here will pay no
attension to Newton's explicit rejection of a medium because of the
huge feedback loop to the exotic 1905 concept which forces aether on to
Newton anyway and then rejects it all over again.

Newton's idea of absolute/relative space refers to oberved motion of
planets and how they are resolved by framehopping to the Sun.For a real
astronomer there is no problem recognising the bewildering series of
maneuvering Newton employed to make the Ra/Dec system fit with his
mutated heliocentric version but it always shows up in one graphic, the
idea that axial rotation to the celestial sphere is equivalent to
orbital motion to 'absolute space'.

What a beautiful mess that can be easily corrected.Of course celestial
sphere astrologers are worried about their definitions and leave them
to it, a potential astronomer will find real substance and merit by
being involved in extracting the Newtonian mutations from Copernican
heliocentricity and its later refinements.

Thank Albert for exposing the Newtonian mutations but that is as far as
it goes.
