Subject: EQ6 SkyScan or EQ6 Pro?

I haven't been able to compare these 2 mounts in person.
Does anyone know the difference between these models?
They both seem to offer GOTO.

Hi:

I've yet to see the Pro in person, since nobody seems to sell them in
the USA (you can bring them in from Canada), but I've been TOLD that
the only real difference is the color of the paintjob. Could be. You
might want to ask this on the Yahoo EQ6 group...

The question has been posted several times on the Yahoo EQ6 group. As Rod
notes, the answer has always been there is no difference between the two
except the Pro is white. In addition, there is some conjecture that the
quality control was better with the Pro. But the consensus has also been
that overall QC has improved recently across both versions.

I've had the Orion badged version of the black-bodied EQ6, the Atlas EQ-G,
since January and have been pleased with the performance. I don't do
astrophotography, but the Yahoo EQ6 group has many photo results from both
plain and Pro versions of the mount.

A couple of weeks ago an upgraded hand controller was released. If you are
contemplating purchasing an EQ6//EQ6 Pro/Atlas/Atlas-G, be sure it has the
new controller (v.3).

A description of the various versions of Synta's EQ6 mount (SkyScan,
SynScan, Syntrek, Atlas, Atlas-G...) is on the home page of the Yahoo EQ6
users' group:

Thanks for the responses.
Does the Orion ATLAS EQ6 dual drives but no GOTO have autoguider ports?

The current non-goto Atlas EQ-G has the guide port. I don't
know if it needs the goto controller to work. In the current
model Orion Atlas EQ-G the only difference between the goto
model and the non-goto model is the controller.

Thanks, how is the new version of hand controller different from the older
and how can I tell the difference?
