Assimilated .. as the hiker was "assimilated" by the quicksand ;)

I can see the ads on AM now: "Pre-Meade Coronado...", just like the
pre-CBS Strats a few years ago.

1. I wonder if they will have the same glowing success Home Depot had
when the had a change at the top (lost a lot of depth in the Tool
Corral for one thing.)

2. When I initially read the subject line I thought a whole town was
wiped of the map. <shudder >

The article seems to say that the people who invented and built the
fine PST and SolarMax scopes are all being fired.

"The Company also reported the planned closure and consolidation of its
Coronado(R) Instruments manufacturing and distribution facility in
Tucson, Arizona, . . . This consolidation will eliminate 16 employees
by August 31, 2006. All Coronado operations are being consolidated into
the Company's Irvine facility, . . . "

Sounds like "gone" to me in corporate speak.

Hopefully the quality of the PSTs will not decline in Meade's hands.
To those people in Tucson who made my PST and who are losing their
jobs, a hearty "thanks" for many hours of past and many future years
enjoyable solar viewing.

Does the new CEO have any experience in optics, or is he another Pepsi Cola
man like Apple hired during the 90s?
It is really sad to see that Coronado has been assimilated.

Is it possible that prices for the solar max H-alpha filters will come down?
Or go up.
Or remain the same?

I don't think it is really gone. It is one of the profitable sections of
Meade. They are just moving the management to their home site although they
promised the old Coronado cadre they would keep them in charge in Tucson way
back when they bought out Lunt. Oh my heart is breaking :)
Hopefully they can make a clean break from the remanents of those
scoundrels.
They left a string of bankruptcys and unpaid bills that caused other
companies to go bankrupt. The only people that made real money was Lunt and
his relatives.
I hope Meade sells the patent rights to an honest group.
They might have to as they are having apparent financial problems of their
own. Their stock is about to be de-listed for failing to file the latest
reports. Failure to report is usually a sign of BIG trouble.

Had Coronado actually been assimilated by (ahem, the) Borg, I expect the
overall concern would be far less. <g >

One can only hope that he also has some business sense. I'm not one to
like manager or business types due to the type of business I'm in/was
in, but SOME savvy in handling a business is necessary these days. I'm
tired of good ideas, good concepts and innovation going away because
someone made an obvious bad business decision.
