Found comet C/2006 M4 (SWAN) in late twilight at about 7:15pm local time =
just before moonrise with the my Tele Vue 76. No tail visible from town =
but the head was quite easy to see. The comet and double star Cor Coroli =
fit in the same field using 16mm Nagler. This site has some nice images =
and info...

Thanks for the heads up on the after sunset opportunity. I tried it
this morning without success because the Moon was up. Any guesses on a
magnitude for the coma? - Canopus56

Hi Canopus,

I'm not good at magnitude estimates but comet was easily visible in the =
TV76 at 30x. I'll look again tonight and see how it shows in binoculars. =
I also want to give comet Barnard a shot!

I caught a glimpse of Comet Swan tonight (Monday . 9th), at 7:45-7:55 PM
EDT located where
predicted. I was able to find it in an old pair of 7x50 binoculars and in
my 8x42 Orion Ultraview binoculars. Removing my glasses helped to darken
the view, with my eyes right up against the eyecups. I estimated it to be
about as bright as SAO63408 (mag. 6.8) and sized about the distance between
a couple of nearby stars - about 4 minutes in diameter. I set up my 4" f/6
apo and looked at the comet at 22-83 power. I did not notice a tail (lost
in the condominium light pollution?) The bright inner section of the coma
was about 1/3
the diameter of the whole. There was no stellar nucleus, just that bright
diffuse center.

Clear skies -

I found the comet tonight (Monday) to be just visible in 10x42 =
binoculars from my home.

I was unable to locate comet Barnard with the Tele Vue 76.=20
