A dwarf galaxy in the constellation Cetus may be a pristine building block of large galaxies like our own, say astronomers. Furthermore, this galaxy is close enough that it belongs to the Local Group, the collection of nearby galaxies that includes our own. For the full story, including a color image of the galaxy, please see http://KenCroswell.com/CetusDwarf.html . Correct email: MagnificentUniverse "at" yahoo "dot" com.

"BREAKING NEWS": This galaxy has been known since 1999, and the above is an advertisement for a book, not a link to "the full story." A google search for "cetus" "dwarf galaxy" turns up 721 web sites. MORE BREAKING NEWS: It's 2006.
