Subject: AutoStar Borked?

Twice in the past fortnight I've set up an LX 75 and simply begun by
directing the scope without setting up AutoStar, just using the numbers
to set rate and using the arrows to move. At first it seemed the scope
wouldn't move in some directions then I found it was slewing at
different rates. At some point it would just star moving of its own
accord without going into set-up. It repeated this behaviour this past
weekend. Has anyone experienced similar behaviour from an AutoStar
497? Is it broken?

I'll have to give that a go. I've been using a 12V powerpack, which
seems to be fine, other than the connector was the wrong size and the
adaptor doesn't fit well (I keep tension on the cord to maintain a good
contact, but will have to do something better, soon.)

Have you done a "Calibrate Drives," and repeated it if you've changed
power sources?

Done a "Train Drives"?

Use a sufficient DC source (like a charged 12vdc jumpstart battery)?

Is the scope tracking without any refernce points? Set it to
terrestial viewing. If you want tracking, put it in the correct
initial position before you start slewing around.
