I did have the book. Good book. But after i flipped thought it a few times it seems it didn't have much of interest for me. Very good for a beginner however. I sold my copy on ebay. ;-)

I am not a beginner. I guess I better return it when it arrives and get
credit. I thought this Sam was out of the
beginner crowd.

I'm not a beginner either, but found much confirming information
in the book from a fresh perspective. There are always things to
be learned... even from re-reading one's astronomy books of many
years.

Perhaps you can cancel your order before it arrives--then you will
not know what you missed!

Yes, i agree. And it is a very good book. There is certainly always more that i can learn. But after spending an hour or so with the book i realized i wouldn't use it again. That's why i sold it. Just wanted to clarify.

To comment one more time... I would HIGHLY recommend the book to a relative newcomer to the astronomy hobby. Really LOTS of good information and tips. But for someone that's been observing a long time, that has a collection of telescope books, that's been reading saa and other astro groups for years, etc, you might not find too much new info in this book. That's not a criticism. Just my review.

Since Mike was asking about scope collimation using stellar diffraction
patterns, which this book addresses on Pgs 238-240, and for other
reasons based on some of his posting in the last year, I thought this
would be an excellent book for him to read.

If he doesn't like the book, I'll buy it off him and give it to someone
that will benefit. Seriously!

Well, I'll see what my 33 bucks brings. Sounds interesting.

You might still enjoy the book!

I am, and always shall be, a beginner. This state of mind comes from
the realization that I'll never know all there is to know about this
fascinating hobby.

As I type this it's getting dark out. My sky is looking clear and
(mostly) transparent. Only the slightest trace of smoke hugs the
horizon. A pair of 25x100 binoculars are outside on a sturdy mount
and tripod -- waiting. Tonight's plan: nothing other than a very
casual session scanning the sky. I plan to take no notes. I plan to
take out no atlas. I feel like getting lost in space! If all goes
well I'll post some kind of report in the morning.

That state of mind makes you an expert!

An expert knows, much much better than the beginner, how little he
actually knows and how much more there is to learn.
