For the first time since before the current school started started, I took
my telescope out.
Rain, clouds, not dark enough early, out of town because of personal family
issues, and
sheer fatigue are the main culprits for such a drought.
Spent about an hour looking at the Moon. Nice clear night, and the Moon is
about half full. Some pretty neat things to see, and it was fun switching
between my two main references (Discover the Moon and Rukl's Atlas) to
identify them. I've needed this. If I didn't have to get up to teach
school tomorrow I'd probably stay up for a few hours.
Some of what I identified: Gay-Lusac, both the crater and the rille,
Copernicus, which was about 1/3 in shadow with two visible central peaks, a
heavily shadowed Pytheas, likewise shadowed Bulliadus and Lubiniezky.
