If you search internet for "scheduled for sporge flood" you get 63000
hits leaning all groups are treathened

fynnily ion hte pages that announce this sporge flood there is an ad
for software to filter the sporge out

example:

soc.genealogy.benelux scheduled for sporge flood

Sporge flooding of soc.genealogy.benelux will commence in a few hours.

This will render soc.genealogy.benelux useless. For an example, see
Sci.Crypt.

Supernews filters out this sporgery spam. Get a better Usenet

The purposes of a sporge flood is to disrupt as much as possible,
including flooding various companies with complaints. In this case it
appears that they expect some people to blame supernews for the flood.
They also rotate abuse contact emails, apparently for a similar reason.

Respected - he's a total moron. But he is not the cause. He couldnt be. He cant
tie his shoes. He is nothing but a pest. This all comes on the heels of the
alternate moderated group starting. So somebody decided to help that along and
or make a point. Its
that simple. Either way you cut this one or two people have it in for this
group in particular because I have searched and IT IS NOT
hitting other groups like the fucktards here "say". At least it isnt hitting
any legitimate groups.

Somebody has grudge and a point to make. And I feel this may go on for a very
long time until this group is dead.

So much for usenet administration!

This all happens when most comemrcial isps would like nothing
better than to see all usenet removed.

The assholes win again. Thats the world we live in.

Turn off the lights when you leave.

Why do you expect anyone to know once, much less four times?

Jan...

I _agree_ with everything you've said, more or less.

Yes, it was great back in the days when s.a.a. was all. That was bound
to change, though, as more and more astronomy venues opened on the I-
net (I suppose there's a Yahoogroup devoted to eyepiece lens caps
now ;-)).

NO, there will probably never be a place like s.a.a. 10 or 15 years
ago...but that's not coming back--I wish it would.

That being the case, there's a lot of good in those other places, even
if you have to hop around to get everything you need.

What's with the "easy Rod" business? It's _fine_ with me if you don't
like my groups and _say so_ here. You ain't gonna hurt _my_ feelin's,
Jan. ;-)

Where did I say or imply you were a Newbie? I'm aware you've been here
a while.

I was just expressing _my_ opinion that the Yahoogroups, Astromart,
and Cloudynights are just as good and valid a source of information as
s.a.a. ever has been. I thought this free exchange of views was what
s.a.a. is all about?! ;-)

No Rod -- it's the long argument complete with personal attacks that
comes afterward that SAA is all about! This, and the trolls who go
around fanning the flames, are the things that truly makes Usenet stand
out from other forums. At least that's been my experience.

Easy, Rod...

{;^)

I didn't say I didn't LIKE your groups, or that there was anything
specifically wrong with them. I said they're not SAA...

Neither are the Cloudy Nights Forums or Yahoo Groups, or Astromart Forums...
Each one was founded for a specific reason, which seemed right to it's
originator at the time... And I believe most of them have tried to remain
true to their chosen path...

The problem has been that until all these groups came along, SAA was the
*one-stop shop*, where one could get all the info one would ever need (along
with some you probably DIDN'T need or want)... But as time wore on, some
regulars left SAA, to found, or join, other venues... And this not only
removed some expertise from SAA, it also has resulted in a HUGE number of
groups, many with very LITTLE (and in some cases, essentially NO) expertise
in them, because what expertise there is, in a relatively small hobby, can
only be spread so far... And THAT's what's wrong with most of these groups
today, including, increasingly, SAA. Of course, SAA still has the trolls
and looney tunes, too, so that isn't helping it any, either...

But I don't see the answer to our problems in forming even more splinter
groups, or everyone flocking to some of the existing ones any more than is
already the case...

I'm a member of a number of other groups, including yours. I visit most of
the groups, including SAA, several times a day... I still think of SAA as
the one-stop shop, and it remains my favorite, warts and all... But it for
sure isn't what it HAS been...

Of course, that's MY opinion.

However you choose to take what I say, rest assured that I really DO respect
yours too...

Look at the path lines in the flooding srticles. They all seem to
come from suddenlink.net in St Louis, MO. If your news reader can do
it [1], kill articles with news.suddenlink.net in the path.

I don't know which moderated groups you belong to, but that is not the
case with those I've used. Which doesn't mean s.a.a. doesn't still
have a place in the world.

I have no idea who is causing the problem, but if I did, I would hurt the
person or at least kill his computer. This is the same type of sick

I assume this newsgroup is not moderated. That's too bad.

hundreds of groups with topics from linux to hockey to
quakerism are being attacked the same way. The odds that
the attacker is from here are slim.

Yes.

NOT moderated is a GOOD thing...

All the moderated newsgroups and OTHER moderated groups that I belong to
have a paucity of expertise, and a lack of guts to let folks say what they
THINK... They seem to be focused on no one being upset at anything someone
else says... And that often comes at the expense of LEARINING EXPERIENCES

I *used* to read each and every post in the newsgroups I frequented.

After years and years on Usenet, I am a pretty good at just looking at
the subject and knowing what is going to happen in the thread. I am
pretty good at pounding the 'I' key (Ignore Thread - Gravity) and
snipping the thread in the bud. I am not shy in settin up killfiles. I
rarely have any inclination to let anyone know I have killfiled them.

The traffic here is not what it once was, but the freedom I have and the
speed that it is realized, is far better than any web forum I visit (I
use web forums a lot too, and am quite familiar with both types of
communication.)

Usenet is just *here*. Web forums have to be paid for by some guy that
might miss a couple payments and bam - mad scramble to find out where
all of the userbase made off too.

Usenet rules!
