Subject: Stellarium uses Flamsteed designations?
I am still playing with this fantastic program, Stellarium.

One minor nit. It appears that on my machine at least, the program names stars
using their Flamsteed number, which is a little confusing to my eyes. I would
prefer if the program used Bayer letters.

Does anyone know if there is a way to change this as an option?

Many thanks,

Go here: http://www.stellarium.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page and look
for the "Extras" box at the bottom left of the page. Lots of goodies
in there besides the star catalogs which go to the 18th magnitude, I
believe. I only grabbed the 15th mag. package as that is pretty much
the limit of my 12.5 inch scope. If you have any questions about
installing these "Extras," let me know. I will be glad to assist.

Hi,

I too love this Stellarium thing. Got the stars down to the 15th
magnitude now and am using the "English Garden" theme. Very nice it
is. Do you know about their forum? It has been great help to me.

Thanks Martin,

I checked with the forum and the Flamsteed numbers appear to be indeed a bug.
Here's the relevant thread:

How did you manage to load stars down to magnitude 15?
