Folks, My June issue is a good two weeks late and I was wondering if others are experiencing the same problem (particularly in Europe). Anthony.

It is amazing to see the principles Huygens uses to determine the difference between natural noon and 24 hour clock noon disregarded for a meaningless late 17th century 'analemma' fudge . Who else would like to trash the Equation of Time principles which are crucial for the development of contemporary civilisation.?. " Draw a Meridian line upon a floor (the manner of doing which is sufficiently known; and note, that the utmost exactness herein is not necessary:) and then hang two plummets, each by a small thred or wire, directly over the said Meridian, at the distance of some 2. feet or more one from the other, as the smalness of the thred will admit. When the middle of the Sun (the Eye being placed so, as to bring both the threds into one line) appears to be in the same line exactly (for the better and more secure discerning whereof, you must be furnish't with a glass of a dark colour, or somewhat blackt with the smoak of a Candle,) you are then immediately to set the Watch, not precisely to the hour of 12. but by so much less, as is the Aequation of the day by the Table. Dennis di Cicco made mention on p 88 that you are "the worlds most dedicated analemma photographer", and provides the link: www.perseus.gr/Astro-Tips-Analemma.htm. If it doesn't come this week call em' up and tell them about it. Ben

I am grateful to Dennis for having lit the fire back in 2000 with his article in the Mar/2000 issue of S&T and where he described the five existing analemmas at the time of the article's writing. I was floored by the challenge that Dennis described and immediately set my sights on such a project. The problem is that eight years later I am still pulling my hair with this project and the last of the eleven analemmas. This "problem-child" analemma has failed due to the weather (twice), movement of the film within the camera chamber (once), bad film (once), my accidental bumping of the permanent mount (twice) perfectly set for azimuth and altitude and misalignment of the mount (once) with respect to altitude. What else can go wrong? > > If it doesn't come this week call em' up and tell them about it. I checked with a few other local amateurs and they have yet to receive their copy as well. As a result, the problem with me does not seem to be isolated. I have been spoiled by receiving my issue five weeks prior to the cover date and I am now getting "withdrawl symptoms". Anyway, I am both delighted and honoured by Dennis' kind words and reference link! Anthony. > > Ben >

I've subscribed for 33 years and had very few problems (and I still have them all). Occasionally, one won't turn up like February 2007 but I put that down to the UK post office. A quick email to S&T and they sent me TWO replacements within a week of each other. Good service! Bob H

My issue finally arrived today. My subscription is 10+ years and I also have a similar experience where service has been perfect and examplary. I think only one issue of mine has been lost during this time and which was also immediately replaced. Anthony. > > Bob H > >
