Hi, When can folks view through the 60 inch at Mt. Wilson and who do I need to call to get additional information. I saw a post concerning viewing there and I would love to get in on a viewing session and get my wife a peek through such a large light gathering instrument. Sincerely, Jim Klein James E. Hi Jim, Go to http://www.chara.gsu.edu/CHARA/MtW/60inVisitorInfo.html. The 60" can be booked for a half-night or full night. There aren't any public sessions you can just join in. If you belong to a local club there's a good chance they reserve it now and then since most around here do (I see you're local from your area code). If you don't belong to one you could join one. The Mount Wilson Observatory Association, the observatory's support group, probably has the best deal if you want to go more than once since for a $100 supporting membership you get multiple nights throughout the year (the dues were set 25 years ago and never raised). Or the dues and then your share of a night with LAAS, the Local Group or another club might be worth it to you. It's also common for a group of friends to book the scope and split the cost. Sometimes it's a group of amateurs who just like to observe together and sometimes it's a special event like a birthday present to a spouse. A half-night is $600, full night is $1100. Maximum group size is 25 although there are big advantages to smaller groups. New moon Friday and Saturday nights are booked up for most of the year but if you can make it on a Sunday or weeknight there are a lot of nights available. Contact me off-line at mikes at mtwilson dot edu if you want more info. Mike Simmons On Fri, 11 May 2007 05:20:05 GMT, Jim Klein wrote: > Hi, > > When can folks view through the 60 inch at Mt.
