Hi all,

Here are a couple of sequences from the lunar occultation of Saturn
that occurred on the 22nd May 2007. The reappearance sequence is a
composite of a positional image (with a burned out Moon) and the lunar
surface taken just seconds after Saturn emerged from occultation.

No such composition was required for the disappearance sequence of
course but it may come as a surprise that Titan was visible as well as
Saturn. At mag. +8.4 I wasn't really expecting to see it with the Sun
still 6 degrees up!

Beautiful!
I was so annoyed: everything was set up and I practiced on taking broad
day light pictures of Saturn with some succes. Then, I managed to miss
the disappearance (it went so quick!) and a few minutes before the
reappearance the clouds came in :-(

Oh no! Philippe, that's so easy to do. A few moments before
disappearance I decided that I didn't need the focal reducer I'd added
into the system. To cut a long story short I had to remove various
bits from the focusing system on my C-14 and reassemble in double
quick time to make sure I had Saturn back in the frame. No GOTO used
so the last thing I wanted to be doing was fiddling about as
disappearance was lookming. Once reassembled and Saturn was back in
the frame, I decided to try with a 2x Barlow (glutton for
punishment!). The seeing was poor so this soon got chucked too.

Reappearance was quite tense as I wasn't sure I had the right part of
the Moon in view. Despite mentally having faith in my calculations I
wobbled at the last minute and started panning up and down the limb.
Quite unnecessary as it turned out!
