Are there any galaxies that have optical jets within amateur visual
and/or imaging limits? Any currently visible? - Canopus56

Jane and I saw the jet in M87 visually through the Mt. Wilson 60-inch.
Not exactly an amateur telescope, but you can rent it as an amateur. :)

I know Jay Freeman has seen it in his 14-inch.

In the photos I'd seen before, the core of the galaxy was overexposed,
and the only evidence of the jet is a little blob on the edge.

When I saw it visually, the striking thing was that you could see the
streak extending completely from the center to the outer edges.
Sometimes having that extra visual dynamic range is an advantage.

You can visually detect the optical jet in M87 with a 10" but
conditions have to be *very* good. I don't think it would present
any particular problem to image.

M87 is currently visible and has a jet. Whether it is within reach of
amateur scopes, I don't know but a bit of image trickery should show
something.

See [http://astronomy-mall.com/Adventures.In.Deep.Space/m87jet.htm]
Obviously, a bit of a challenge.
