Are there any events (i.e. star gazing parties) coming up soon close
to the West Los Angeles area?

The South Bay Astronomical Society will hold its monthly Star Party on
Saturday, May 12th at the Ridgecrest School, 28915 North Bay Road,
Rancho Palos Verde starting at 8:30 p.m. The event is free and the
public is welcome. For more information and directions visit our
website at www.geocities.com/sbas_elcamino and click on 'Next Public
Viewing Session' .

I'd recommend checking with the Los Angeles Astronomical Society at
www.laas.org (click on Events). They hold public star parties at Griffith
Observatory. To get a better view of most objects you need to get out of
the city away from the lights. Each month LAAS holds a star party at their
site in the mountains north of LA and one at Griffith.

RTMC is up in the mouthains above San Bero. you should check out the Los
Angeles Astro club, I can't remember their name but I would think a google
search would find them.
or just look for the rtmc page.

I believe that RTMC is at Camp Oaks in the San Bero mouthains. :-)
Actually it is at an altitude of about 8000' in the Mouthains.

Seriously, try the following URL:

See you there...
