Subject: Dr. Halton Arp interviewed at Electric Politics
Posted last Friday, an interview with Dr. Halton Arp at Electric
Politics. Dr. Arp, now at the Max Planck Institut fur Astrophysik, was
for many years at the pinnacle of the American scientific
establishment but fell out of favor over his observations of red-shift
and his ideas about what they mean for cosmology. No Big Bang, a
constantly renewing universe, faster than light travel, and many other
interesting consequences.

That's utter nonsense. Like science is some sort of popularity contest!
Or something that can only done by those who have the favor of the King.

What Arp lost was the respect of his peers and deservedly so.

Arp is in the same class as Fred Hoyle, Thomas Gold and Hermann Bondi.

I don't know about that... Bondi apparently made some important
contributions to physics. :-)

All of them have made important contributions to physics and cosmology.
Some, like Gold, remained highly respected in spite of having some
beliefs that were out of the mainstream (in Gold's case, only a few).
Arp, however, has lost most of the respect he once had because of his
refusal to give up on ideas that have been very solidly refuted, and
because virtually all his work is centered on just those ideas.

Also, I think his statistical groundwork is suspect.

Not anywhere in the same league as Bondi.

I agree.
