I was under the impression that quality didn't drop until the late 80's
with the comet 'madness'. What is supposed to have changes in 78 or 79?

Not a bad price if it doesn't go much higher.

BTW, the way Celestron has figured its optics has NEVER changed.

A minimal amount of hand figuring goes into the secondaries as
required. Though I guess all the hand work needed to make Master
Blocks counts for somethin' ;-)

That could be my C8. Mine isn't quite mint condition perhaps but is in =
very good condition. I'll be interested to see what the final selling =
price turns out to be.=20

Ditto. Mine is a '77 in at least close to mint condition with a few
spangles hung on it... a turret eyepiece holder, a 50mm finder, and a
red dot pointer. I had to alter the original footlocker with a little
"wart" to make room for that red dot pointer, but I'm still using that
too. If a person were a "collector" I still have the original finder
scope in a little box. (Can't get rid of anything...) I'm sure better
scopes are available today, but I like the "mechanical simplicity" of
the old C8's. It's gonna get used for as long as I keep ticking.

Define "spangles"...

Heheheh!!!

I'm sure many folks here would LOVE to have your scope with it's few
"spangles"...

And they probably wouldn't much mind USING it in your less than pristine
skies (because YOUR less than pristine skies would, in many cases, be pretty
damned GOOD, compared to others!!!)...

They can't have it. It's MINE.

Yeah, I can gripe about light pollution, especially here in town, and
transparency, which can be pretty poor with the Iowa humidity in the
Summer, but for the most part, I'm pretty lucky to live on the end of a
dead end street on the edge of a dinky little town out in the sticks. :)
