I assume that you are talking about the compressed 38Meg release of
June 2005 that can be downloaded through http://www.ap-i.net/skychart/en/do=
wnload
. This file contains approximately 9,885 fits DSO thumbnails and
extracts to ..\Ciel\data\pictures\sac with a size of 234Mb. It's a
handy image collection to have even if you do not use in Ciel.

Rod's basic advice is correct. The DSS/Real Sky add in is the better
choice. I use 2.76 so I'll defer to Rod's advice on v3.x beta. The
following instructions concern how to display user images or the sac
catalogue in v2.76, so you elect to do so before moving on to verison
3=2Ex beta.

You can use the sac directory and its fits thumbnails in v2.76. The
process is a little cumbersome, but works fine. It is also the
procedure that you use to load your own image over a Ciel chart. One
limitation is that the image will rescale in Cartes and only allow you
to view the image in a window of less than 7 degrees and probably
around 1 degree.

There appears to be a small bug in v2.76 image dialogue. I have never
been able to get the data\pictures\sac directory to be the default
image directory. So, you have to manually open the image directory
each time. Other than this, it is a straight forward process.

1) On the menubar, select "Images

Hi:

CdC 2.76 will allow you do download DSS images (and GSC stars) as
needed. If you want to use the prepackaged images Patrick has
available, you'll need the Beta CdC 3.0 available here:

http://www.ap-i.net/skychart/index.php

The beta is afar along enough that there's really no reason not to use
it.
