Hi. I have a query that someone may be able to help with. Having aquired an old pair of 12x60 Russian made binoculars, I am having problems with shake. I need to mount them on a tripod and this necessetates my unscrewing the small cover over the central spindle to get at the screw thread within. The cap is a centimeter of dark metal with two tiny holes in the surface that look like they would require a special tool to open it. Does anyone have experience of such? Any advice would be useful! Cheers. Richard.

Such a cap would probably unscrew easily just using your fingers and not require any tools. Not all binoculars have a standard tripod threaded socket mounted on the hinge. > > .Florian Thank you everyone! Most helpful!

Make a tool out of a piece of wood with two brads hammered into it - clip the heads off and adjust width slightly as needed and go to town.
