Hi.

I have a query that someone may be able to help with.

Having aquired an old pair of 12x60 Russian made binoculars, I am
having problems with shake. I need to mount them on a tripod and this
necessetates my unscrewing the small cover over the central spindle
to
get at the screw thread within.

The cap is a centimeter of dark metal with two tiny holes in the
surface that look like they would require a special tool to open it.
Does anyone have experience of such?

Any advice would be useful!

Cheers. Richard.

Hi Richard,

This doesn't really sound like a cap covering a tripod socket. Such a =
cap would probably unscrew easily just using your fingers and not =
require any tools. Not all binoculars have a standard tripod threaded =
socket mounted on the hinge.

I have one of these and I'm very pleased with how it handles my Oberwerk
15x70. The mount is attached to my relatively small Bogen 3001 tripod.

Make a tool out of a piece of wood with two brads hammered into it -
clip the heads off and adjust width slightly as needed and go to town.
