What a strange little solar system we have going on! The Astronomy Picture of the Day (http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap070528.html), reveals one heck of a bizarre quirk on the Red Planet. I want to think there is an advanced civilization living beneath the surface that didn't pay their light bill before the power was turned off. Come on, Martians. . .get those lights back on so we can peer into your habitat. -- Martin R. They were attempting to spark a greenhouse effect, but could never get a high enough percentage of CO2. In any case, the exhaust vents are coated on the inside with black soot... Austin

It's actually a bubble that got sliced open. Thus proving that even if the moon isn't, Mars is made out of cheese. ;-) -- Andrew Smallshaw andrews@sdf.lonestar.org

It makes me think of the deep boreholes (called moholes) that were used in Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars books to tap into the planet's heat as part of the terraforming process. We were the Martians. _________________________________________________ Chris L Peterson Cloudbait Observatory http://www.cloudbait.com
